the “bunken” patch

October 27, 2008

Isaac has been crazy about pumpkins this season. He actually calls them “bunkens” and I’m starting to prefer it that way too. There’s nothing more festive than a trip to the “bunken” patch…

October 14, 2008

Matt and I are coming at cha from Chicago tonight. We’re leading at a college bible study called 631 (sixthirtyone.com). We just came off stage from a powerful time of worship. It’s alive here and I love it.

Let me leave you with one last thought…

Another great thing about being in Chicago is Giordano’s pizza. If your not keen to Giordsno’s then let me fill you in…

OMG!!!!!!!!!

catalyst 08

October 10, 2008

hi

first of all…im glad you guys dig the new song.  thank you for your encouragement.  me and the guys have been overwhelmed by the response it’s getting.  we’re excited to share more as we can.

second…i’ve spent the past couple of days at catalyst conference 2008 and it’s been really amazing.  catalyst is a leadership conference for church leaders that takes place here in atlanta every year around this time.  they always have the latest and greatest authorities on leadership in and outside of the church sharing invaluable leadership principles.  as a leader myself…i always end up taking pages of notes and walking away from catalyst a better leader on and off the stage (i’ve pasted some notes i took from Andy Stanley’s talk yesterday morning below).

the other cool thing about catalyst conference is the clear and undeniable presence of God.  every year i can count on a powerful experience with God.  this year steve fee, eddie kirkland, aaron keyes and myself were leading and it was a blast.  all these guys are great friends of mine and to be able to lead together in one place is so SO cool.

anyway…im exhausted and ready for a restful weekend.  i’ll be leading at browns bridge this week so if you see me…say hi.

bye for now

As leaders…alignment of our creed and our deed is critical. People
follow leaders with moral authority.

Areas where we must have moral authority:
Forgiveness – we have been forgiven, therefore we should forgive.  We
have to forgive the wrongs done to us.  There is no excuse for bitter
church leaders.  The boldest thing you can do as a leader is to get on
your knees and release the ways in which you’ve been wronged.

Family – if your wife feels like the church is your mistress…you’ve
lost moral authority.  Prioritize the role that know one else can
play. There will be other worship leaders…no one else will be a
father to Isaac. No one else will be a husband to kerri.

Finances – we need to be able to stand up as Christian leaders and
say, “our finances are in order.”  if you want to lead generous
people…be a generous person.

wake up

October 8, 2008

a new song…

wake up

slow it down…

October 7, 2008

with our time in Mexico City fresh on our hearts we’re writing again today.  we started the day off with an idea that the guys in the band wrote.  it was a pretty intense rock song with a few different sections that were cool, but never felt cohesive.  joe was wanting to work on a drum part he was playing on the verse and it was pretty tricky, so he slowed it down so he could practice it for a bit.  when he slowed it down…that’s when the magic fell.

we finished the song in a matter of minutes after that.

we’re about to record another take of it.

more later…

Hermoso Jesus

October 5, 2008

i don’t have a lot of words for this video.

this is a moment that we shared with the beautiful Mexicans at Passion Mexico City.  all our attention was turned toward Jesus.  with one voice and in one language we worshipped Him.

hermoso Jesus, hermoso salvador
nada es mas grande, brillante creador

A Heads Up

October 4, 2008

Just a quick heads up for all you staying connected with what’s going on in Mexico City.

Check out 268generation.com/blog for some great pics and updates.

We’re up and running here in Mexico City and we’re off to a great start. Mr. Tomlin and band took the opening set and now louie is up speaking. It’s clear already that it’s going to be a powerful weekend.

We’ll be leading the AM session tomorrow with Francis Chan. Leading with Francis is always an adventure. You’re not always sure about what might happen, but you are guaranteed one thing for sure. You always know that Francis will have his ears and his heart tuned to the voice of God. Because of that, the times I’ve led with Francis have been incredible.

Some of you have asked for our setlist…

Faithful
Happy Day
Salvation Is Here
Beautiful Jesus

Lord of All
I need You w/Jesus Paid it All tag

???

The ??? means we’ll follow Francis.

Keep praying for us and these beautiful students here in the sports palace.

more later…

yesterday and tomorrow

October 1, 2008

let’s start with yesterday…

the first words that come to my mind are…thank you God!  it was a great day spent creating and watching ideas evolve from nothing into something very exciting.  we worked on two ideas that are very different from each other.  one we are affectionately calling “desert bones”.  it’s a pretty intense rock song that moves real quick like.  tim, joe, alex and matt really made this one fun to listen to.  the other is a song i wrote a while back called “lead us on”.  we had worked on this song a few months ago, but decided to scrap what we had done and start over.  now it starts pretty chill and then picks up on the chorus.  your going to flip when you here matt melton’s slide guitar part on the verse and then alex’s guitar part on the chorus.  also…joe and tim groove so hard on this one.  i can’t wait to play these for you guys.

next…tomorrow

tomorrow we are headed to mexico city for the first stop on the third leg of the Passion World Tour.  we still have manila ringing our hearts and can’t wait to get on the plane tomorrow and head to mexico to see what God is preparing there.  a few stats about Mexico City…the estimated population for the Metropolitan Area is around 23 million making it the largest city in the world.  The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in mexico city has close to 300,000 students that go to school there.  there are a lot of people in mexico city.  i don’t know a single one of them, but we do have something in common.  the thing that will bring me and the college students attending this Passion event together is our love for Jesus.  i can’t wait to stand on that stage and look out at 18,000 of my Mexican brothers and sisters and worship Jesus…loudly!  we are praying that this group of Jesus lovers in a huge city will be a light and glow with the love and life of Jesus.

pray for us as we go.  i’ll catch you up as i can about how it’s going.

love to all.
